1954 Buick Wildcat II Concept Recreation
January 10, 2018
The "Wildcat II" was designed by legendary automotive icon Harley Earl for the 1954 General Motors "Motorama" Auto Show. Like the Chevy "Corvette," which the "Wildcat" was based on, the concept car was made of fiberglass. Earl's radical styling combined classic thirties era open front fenders with modern fifties fins at the rear.
This three view Portrait captures one of the most interesting attempts at style innovation during the 1950's. "I was struck by the bold lines of this recreation when I saw it at a local Phoenix auto show," commented artist Robert "Bob" Diepenbrock, "It actually looks like two different cars, depending on which angle you look at it from."
